"I believe that the spring festival (Chinese New Year) celebration will accelerate the development of the tourism industry and push forward the other economic sectors in Bacolod City," Cui Luosheng, Chinese Consul General in Cebu, yesterday said during the opening BacoLaodiat Festival at the Bacolod Public Plaza.

The opening was preceded by a grand cultural parade participated in by the Negros Tsinoy and delegations from the various Chinese schools in the city including the MassKara dancers of Brgy. Alijis, the Kadang performers, and the Lion and Dragon dancers.

Cojuangco happy to
be adopted son

Ambassador Eduardo Cojuangco, who was conferred the honor of being an Adopted Son of the Negros Tsinoy at rites held at the St. John's Institute Activity Center in Bacolod City yesterday said he hopes to help the group in all its undertakings.

Cojuangco said the Negros Tsinoy is the first organization that has recognized that he is Chinese.

The Negros Tsinoy had conferred the honors on Cojuangco for his meritorious contributions to the upliftment of the conditions of the Filipino people and his numerous humanitarian accomplishments.moremoremore

Briton strangles wife
to death in Boracay

ILOILO CITY--A 41-year-old Briton strangled to death his Taiwanese wife inside their rented room at a resort on Boracay Island yesterday.

The police detained Carl Andrew Foster at the Boracay Special Tourist Police Office after he reported the incident.

PO1 Frensy Andrade of the BSTPO said Foster approached two policemen near the Luna Rosa Restaurant around 1:30 a.m. yesterday and reported the incident. moremoremore
