La Salle to host
University Games
BY CEDELF TUPAS

The University of St. La Salle has been awarded the hosting rights of the 12th National University Games, after De La Salle-Dasmariņas gave up the responsibility of staging the week-long multi-event competition in Cavite, USLS sports director Roger Banzuela said yesterday.

Banzuela also said that beach volleyball will be played for the first time in the history of the Games, which will be supported by the Commission on Higher Education. De La Salle-Dasmariņas, the host of the Games in 2003, pulled out from hosting the UniGames because of an ongoing revamp in its sports department, Banzuela said.

In contrast, Banzuela said the committees and venues are all in place if the Games are held in Bacolod.

DHSBNHS spikers
try to stay on top

Dona Hortensia Salas Benedicto National High School hopes to tighten its grip on the top spot of the Shakey's Girls Volleyball Invitational League Negros eliminations today when it plays two crucial games at the University of St. La Salle College Covered Court in Bacolod City.

The La Carlota-based spikers, who rallied for a 19-25, 25-20, 25-21 triumph over erstwhile co-leader USLS Saturday, are expected to undergo stiff resistance from defending champion Doņa Montserrat Lopez National High School in the 10:30 a.m schedule. Also battling DHSBNHS today is La Consolacion College, which is hoping to bounce back from a 16-25, 21-25 drubbing at the hands of La Salle.
