Onward Bacolod !

LA VIDA NEGRENSE

Bacolod City recently witnessed a colorful and fireworks-filled inauguration of the city's third-term mayor, lawyer, Evelio Leonardia, and fellow officials at the historical Bacolod Public Plaza . Mayor Bing, as he is fondly called, got unprecedented votes of 109,000 last May elections, garnering the highest mayoralty votes in the history of the capital city of this sugar-rich province. He is likewise the first re-elected Mayor in 12 years.

The mayor was sworn into office by Senator Ramon Revilla Jr. In his speech, the senator said that Mayor Leonardia's leadership has affirmed the sustainability of Bacolod City as the "Most Business Friendly City in Western Visayas" in the year 2006. This September, the City will host the 16th Visayas Area Business Conference, with more than 120 chief executive officers of various corporations nationwide. Mayor Bing believes the attendance of these CEOs is significant in the light of the thrust to push Bacolod onto the investment map of the Philippines. Bacolod has also been proclaimed by the Asian Institute of Management as one of the five Most Competitive Cities in the Philippines, and as the "Most Business-Friendly Local Government Unit" by the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry. After the inauguration, guests proceeded to Casino Hotel for a sumptuous dinner.
