Results of SEAG
audit sought
BY CHRYSEE SAMILLANO

A resolution inquiring from the Commission on Audit the status and the result of its full special audit on the handling of funds for 2005 Southeast Asian Games in Bacolod City was passed by the Bacolod Sangguniang Panlungsod recently.

Its proponent, Councilor Alex Paglumotan, yesterday said he just wants to know the status of the special audit on the way the Philippine Southeast Asian Games Organizing Committee and the Bacolod Southeast Asian Games Organizing Committee managed the funds released for the event.

The resolution is a follow-up to a previous one passed by the SP in February 2, 2006. SP Resolution No. 104 Series of 2006 said the City of Bacolod, through a memorandum of understanding it had entered into with PHILSOC dated July 29, 2005, hosted four major sports during the SEAG held November 20 to December 5, 2005.

In connection with the event, the Bacolod City government had P9 million as specified in the MOU between it and PHILSOC created by Presidential Executive Order No. 126, dated Sept. 18, 2002, to help defray specified expenses in connection with the event, it said.

It also said BASOC, which was authorized at the local level to handle organizational requirements and serve as PHILSOC's implementing agent (per letter of PHILSOC chairman Roberto Pagdanganan and Vice chairman Jose Cojuangco Jr. dated July 26, 2005), is required to submit a financial report on the P9 million counterpart fund given by the City.

Meanwhile, the BASOC Finance Committee submitted to the SP a detailed liquidation report on the matter last Dec. 29, 2005 in a letter addressed to former Vice Mayor Renecito.*CGS
