Negros island is among the 19 coal districts identified by the Department of Energy with significant coal deposits where an assessment of potential coalbed methane and related coal resources will be conducted.

The assessment, a joint project of the DOE and the U.S. Geological Survey of the Department of Interior, will run from years 2007 to 2009, and will be implemented under the Memorandum of Understanding signed recently by both parties to conduct scientific and technical cooperation in the field of earth sciences.

PICPA, BIR to
conduct tax seminar

The Philippine Institute of Certified Public Accountants-Negros Occidental Chapter and the Bureau of Internal Revenue District 77 in Bacolod City will hold a Tax Update on March 15, from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the Business Inn hotel, a press release from PICPA said.

Topics to be discussed are the BIR e-Services and Electronic Filing and Payment System and other tax updates.

Jobs in Korea, Saudi Arabia
open to Negrenses: POEA

The Philippine Overseas Employment Administration in Negros Occidental said job openings are available in Korea and Saudi Arabia for Negrenses interested to work abroad, the Philippine Information Agency announced.

Carmen Nagum, head of the local POEA Satellite Office, said applicants from Bacolod City and Negros Occidental may visit their office for details. Registration for Korea is now ongoing and applications will be accepted not later than March 23 for the hiring that will start in April or May this year.

Applicants must be 18 to 38 years old but those who are already 38 must not be born earlier than 1968. They should be at least high school graduates and willing to take the Korean Language Test.
