Two killed,
17 injured in mishap

Two hitchhikers died and 13 were injured, when the cargo truck they were riding on fell off an overflow bridge in Brgy. Jonob-Jonob, Escalante City, Negros Occidental, Monday night.

Police Officer 1 Benjie Prietos, Escalante PNP Desk Officer, yesterday said the cargo truck driven by Angelito Makig-angay was loaded with 2,350 board feet of lumber, and jampacked with passengers, bound for Brgy. Vito, Sagay City.

Prietos said the accident occurred when the engine of the cargo truck malfunctioned.

The one who died on the spot was identified by the police as Arturo Compania. Pacifico Montecillo was declared dead on arrival at the Dr. Vicente Gustilo District Hospital in Escalante City, RGMA Super Radyo reports said.

The 13 injured passengers were Tomas Pableo, Ramon Makig-angay, Mariano Catalan, Jolito Cogonon, Guillermo Coyson, Edgardo Constancio, Marlin Makig-angay, Brian Robles, Jessie Boy Jimeno, Joemar Trajeros, Rene Boy Binabati, Antonio Guazon and Letecia Guanzon. The injured victims are now being treated at the Dr. Vicente Gustilo District Hospital in Escalante City.*GPB
