Premiere piano recital set

Carmela Angeles Suarez will be presented in a Premiere Piano Recital on April 14 at the Center of Carmelite Spirituality, Village Angela, Burgos in Bacolod City, by the SOJ Music Studio, a press release from organizers said.

Carmela is the daughter of Armand and Sari Suarez, and a student of Sylvia Ocsio-Javellana.

Her repertoire includes works by Johann Sebastian Bach, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Claude Debussy, Serge Rachmaninoff, Johanne Brahms, Moritz Moskowski, Johann Strauss and Francisco Buencamino Sr. She will also perform ensemble numbers with her brothers and sisters. Carmela was first place in sight playing memory in 2004 and 2005, and a performer in the SOJ Piano Recital in Kornweistheim, Germany in 2004, the press release added.*

Olivia Yanson gets award

Olivia "Love" Yanson was conferred the Signum Lasallianum Award by the University of St. La Salle last Sunday at the Santuario de la Salle of USLS in Bacolod City, a press release said yesterday.

The award is given to persons who share the Lasallian spirit of faith, service and community through their outstanding service to humanity, especially in their areas of influence.

Yanson was cited not only for her contribution to the building of the successful transportation business in partnership with her husband Dr. Ricardo Yanson, but also for her various apostolates which include several medical missions, scholarships, and support for the Bahay Pag-asa and its halfway house.

She has also spearheaded environmental conservation projects such as the reforestation of 756 hectares of denuded land in Basay, and a marine sanctuary in Dauin, both in Oriental Negros, the press release said. She is chairman of the Board of the Vallacar Transit Corporation, the Rural Transit of Mindanao, and the Bachelor Express Corporation.

In her response, she shared her favorite prayer which states "Lord, let me do now what I can to help those you send to me today, because I may not be here tomorrow."*
