1st district may be placed
under Comelec: Advincula
BY MARICAR ARANAS

The entire First Congressional District of Oriental Negros will probably be placed under the Commission on Elections control, provincial election supervisor Manuel Advincula said. Advincula said he recently received a memorandum directive from COMELEC Central office ordering him to submit a report and recommendation of the La Libertad ambush that killed seven persons, including a barangay captain, and to assess the situation in the district.

The first district includes the municipalities of Manjuyod, Bindoy, Ayungon, Jimalalud, La Libertad, Guihulngan, Vallehermoso and Canlaon City.

Advincula said at present he is collating reports from Philippine National Police and the National Bureau of Investigation where he will base his recommendation to the COMELEC en banc.

Paras vs. Paras,
Teves vs. Teves
BY JUANCHO GALARDE

Rep. Jacinto Paras said that if his older brother, Jerome, also a former congressman for three terms, is the official candidate of their family, this will not carry any weight but will only be persuasive as far as politics is concerned

The younger Paras was responding to criticisms from another elder brother, Jerry, that he is "greedy" for not complying with their signed agreement in August 2003, a year before the 2004 elections.

Peace rally staged

A peace rally was staged in Guihulngan, Oriental Negros to condemn atrocities allegedly committed by the New Peoples Army that marked its 38th founding anniversary yesterday.

A press release from the 11 Infantry Battalion of the Army said the participants were San Carlos City, Don Salvador Benedicto in Negros Occidental, and the municipalities of Vallehermoso, La Libertad, and Guihulngan in Oriental Negros. About 1,500 rallyists on board eleven vehicles started the caravan from Crossing Bagawines, Vallehermoso towards Poblacion Guihulngan in Oriental Negros.
