There were no indications of foul play in the death of Bacolod-born
football standout Dave Fegidero, whose fatal injuries were caused by a motorcycle
accident on Oct. 2 in Hat Yai, Thailand. This was confirmed by the by Dr.
Nicasio Botin, medico-legal officer II of the National Bureau of Investigation
in Western Visayas, who conducted an autopsy on Fegidero's body yesterday, the
victim's older brother, Norman Fegidero, said last night. "He (Dave) died of internal
hemorrhage and had fatal injuries on his neck and back," Norman said, quoting
Dr. Botin, who will submit his autopsy report next week. Norman said the
two holes on Dave's head that heightened the suspicion of foul play were "not
deep". "They were scratches. It happened because he was not embalmed immediately
after the accident. His body was already decomposing. It took five days for his
body to arrive in Bacolod," he said. "Now, we don't have any doubts. We
are relieved," the older Fegidero said. Norman said Dave, 29, came from
a gathering 26 kms. away from his residence on the night of the accident.
"He (Dave) failed to negotiate a blind curve on an elevated highway, causing his
motorcycle to hit a railing, before he was thrown off the vehicle," Norman said.
Dave's body was found in a grassy area below the flyover, Norman said.
Dave worked as an English tutor contracted by the local government of
Hat Yai at the time of his death. He also served as coach of the La Salle-Zobel
football team for two years prior to his stint in Thailand. Dave's funeral
is scheduled at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Rose Lawn Memorial Park in Barangay Bata.
His remains lie in state at Rolling Hills Memorial Chapel in Barangay Mandalagan,
Bacolod City. A veteran of the Philippine football team that saw action
in many international tournaments, including the 2000 and 2002 Tiger Cup, Dave
was supposed to see action for the Philippine futsal squad in the Southeast Asian
Games in December in Ratchasima Nakhon, Thailand. *CPT back
