Boy shot by jailer
dies at hospital
Bacolod City district jail supervisor, Supt. Samson
Abaygar, yesterday assured help for the family of a 14-year-old
boy, who died after he was shot by a jail guard Tuesday.
Abaygar said he is sure JO1 John Anthony Badillo
will be willing to negotiate with the family of Herman Cuervo, who
died of a gunshot wound on his left buttock while being treated
at the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital Tuesday.
Badillo surrendered to Police Station 6 hours
after shooting Cuervo with his .38 revolver. The boy was shot when
he and his companion tried to steal scrap metals from a compound
near the jail officer's house at No. 20, St. Andrew Avenue, Doņa
Juliana Heights, in Bacolod at about 2 p.m. Tuesday, police records
showed.
Badillo was also the one who rushed Herman to
the CLMMRH before he turned himself in to the police, Abaygar said.
The boy's father, Roberto, told ABS-CBN that he
had repeatedly warned his son against going with his friends to
scavenge for scrap metal, but added, that he cannot understand why
Badillo had to shot him.
He also asked for help for Herman's hospital and
burial expenses because he said, his earnings as a security guard
is just barely enough for his other eight children.
Abaygar said he would welcome it if Herman's family
would not file charges against Badillo, who is now detained at Police
Station 6, but added that the decision still lies with them and
the police.*PP
