The impending absence of 2006 titlist Emilio Aguinaldo College and losing finalist Adamson University has opened up the title race in the men's basketball tournament of this year's Philippine National University Games that opens Monday at the University of St. La Salle Coliseum in Bacolod City.

The scenario leaves West Negros College --- the 2005 University Games champion --- as the best-ranked team from last year, owing to its third place finish.

Only four of the eight quarterfinalists last year, including WNC, are returning with USLS, University of Iloilo and many-time champion St. Francis of Assisi among the 22 teams that will in action.

Bacoleņa Mia Piccio followed up her 72 with a 2-under 70 Sunday to rule the World Woods Rolling Oaks Open at the World Woods Golf Club in Florida.

It was an impressive win for the 15-year-old Piccio, who gunned down seven birdies against five bogeys to top the 21-player girls' 13-18 event.

She beat Stanford University-bound scholar Sally Watson and former World Juniors champion and compatriot Cyna Rodriguez, who finished in a tie for third.

Trailing Scottish golfer Sally Watson by two strokes at the end of the first round, Piccio roared back with birdies on holes No. 1, 7, 10 and the par-3 14.
