Negros SP to tackle budget
BY GILBERT BAYORAN

The en banc hearing of the proposed P1 billion budget for Negros Occidental will be discussed by members of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan on Nov. 7, Acting Vice Governor Dino Yulo said yesterday.

Yulo, who presided over the regular SP session, yesterday said heads of the different Capitol departments will be invited to explain their respective proposed budgets.

The deliberation of the P1 billion budget of the provincial government of Negros Occidental and P334 million budget for its Economic Enterprise Development Department, was referred yesterday by Yulo to the Committee on Finance chaired by Board Member Miller Serondo. Governor Joseph Maraņon said the proposed budget for 2008 has an increase of P108 million from this year's budget, which is needed to cover the 10 percent salary hike of Capitol employees totaling P27,210,092 and the subsistence, hazard and laundry allowances for health workers under the Magna Carta for Health Workers totaling P50,310,855, among others.

Maraņon added the bulk of the P1 billion proposed budget goes to personal services, P251 million to maintenance and other operating expenses, and P356 million to non-office expenses.*GPB
