Agri awards up

The Provincial Veterinary Office of Negros Occidental is giving 15 major awards to animal breeders, raisers, PVO technicians, and local government units during the Pasidungog sa mga Manug-Sagud Sapat at the Panaad Festival to be held April 9 to 15.

Provincial Veterinarian Dr. Renante Decena yesterday said the awards will help the recipients to develop and improve the livestock industry of the province.

Decena said they want to make the livestock industry the second major industry in Negros Occidental, next to sugarcane.

Farm animals are easy to grow as long as farmers and raisers have the capability, capacity, and the resources. This will also help them in their livelihood and can generate additional income, especially for small farmers, he said.

Decena said the festival is one way of recognizing the contribution of all organizations, individual farmers, and LGUs that have made efforts in sustaining their livestock production.

The awards to be given are for the Outstanding Artificial Insemination Technician in Swine, Outstanding AI in Large Animals, Outstanding Paravet Association, Outstanding Hog Raisers Association, Outstanding Satellite Breeding Farm, Outstanding Dairy Cooperative.

The LGU Implementer on Veterinary Services, Outstanding Swine Breeder, Outstanding Game Fowl Breeder, Outstanding Cattle Breeder, Outstanding Carabao Breeder, Outstanding Sheep and Goat Breeder, Outstanding Raiser on Free Range Chicken, egg layer production, and broiler production, awards will also be given during the festival.

Decena said they will have a display of farm animals and a dairy fair during the festival that will showcase the products and by-products of the livestock sector. *LTG
