Cebu Archbishop Jose Palma is urging Christians to observe Holy Week as a time for expressing one’s faith and spiritual renewal.
He called for reflection during the Lenten season, starting with the Palm Sunday activities when Christians recall the triumphal entry of Jesus to Jerusalem. It was supposedly a joyful welcome with people thinking he is the Messiah. But the same people who laid palms at Jesus Christ’s feet and called out “Hosanna!” as he passed were the same people who called for his crucifixion, Palma pointed out.
The Holy Week is not simply a week for vacation. The best way to celebrate the Holy Week is to participate in the main activities of the Church, Palma added.
He thanked churchgoers for attending the Palm Sunday Mass, for appreciating the love of God, and to continue believing and trusting Jesus Christ.
“We should believe that we and the celebration will make us a happy people, a people with faith, and a people who express self in many signs of solidarity, in many signs of good works," Palma said.
The Holy Week is the final week of the 40-day season of Lent and is the week preceding Easter.*PNA
