DTI inviting Neg. Occ. to
join int’l food expo

The Center for International Trade Expositions and Missions Food Team of the Department of Trade and Industry is inviting Negros Occidental to take part in the IFEX Philippines 2013, Leah Ocampo, food team officer-in-charge, said.

In her letter to Gov. Alfredo Marañon, Jr., Ocampo also requested a meeting Marañon on May 11 to discuss and present IFEX Philippines 2013 together with the partners and stakeholders of the province.

Last month, the province was the lone local government unit that participated in the FOODEX Japan 2012 at the Makuhari Messe, Chiba, Japan brining the local products of Negros.

Ocampo said, “The organic sugar and coffee of the province elicited significant interest among Japanese and Korean traders who like the story behind the products.”

Anna Marie Lucasan, provincial public affairs head, said traders were amazed at how the Negros Island Sustainable Agriculture and Rural Development Foundation organized and mobilized farmers who have plantation areas near the protected areas of Mt. Kanlaon. *LTG
