The Department of Public Works and Highways launched “Lakbay Alalay” effective Sunday to ensure the safety of travelers going back to their towns and cities for the observance of the Holy Week.
DPWH-Bacolod District Engineer Reynaldo Venturina said that assistance centers were installed at the main thoroughfares until April 10 to assist motorists.
Venturina said that DPWH men will assist travelers whose vehicles may encounter trouble and will also provide directions to tourists.
Bacolod City Police Office also launched “Katawhayan sa Dalan” yesterday that aims to curb the modus of criminals riding in tandem in motorcycles.
Dela Paz said this is a sustainable campaign and is not only for the observance of the Holy week. He added that they will issue “clear motorcycle” stickers to the owners of the motorcycles who can present complete documents for their vehicles.
Through this campaign, he said, personnel of LTO, HPG, BTAO and the Bacolod City Police Traffic Management Unit will conduct sustained checkpoint operations at the main thoroughfares of the city 24 hours a day.
Bacolod Vice Mayor Jude Thaddues Sayson and Councilor Al Victor Espino led the inspections of motorcycles in the launching of the campaign yesterday.
Meanwhile, the hotels, inns and resorts in Bacolod City and Negros Occidental are almost fully booked for the Holy week and the summer break, Provincial Tourism Officer Christine Manzanares, said yesterday.
Manzanares said both local and international tourists are now arriving especially at the Mambucal resort in Murcia town and at the resorts in Cuayan town and at the Himamaylan and Sipalay Cities.
She said 30 percent are international visitors while the rest are local tourists.
Manzanares added that the local government have already setup security measures for the tourists.*APN back
