BY GILBERT BAYORAN

The start of the week-long Lenten season celebration on Sunday was marred with shooting and stabbing incidents, that claimed the lives of two and caused injury to a woman in Toboso, Isabela and Moises Padilla, Negros Occidental, police records show.

The two fatalities were identified as Ricky Baja, 34, and Raffy Emolaga,30, and the survivor in the shooting incident as Jennifer Pendon,38, of Brgy. Cabcab, Isabela.

Senior Police Officer 1 Rex Sayap, Toboso PNP Desk Officer, yesterday said Baja succumbed to a stab wound below his left armpit, after he was stabbed allegedly by his own father, Alfredo,70, while he was celebrating his birthday on Sunday at their residence in Sitio Polopangyan, Brgy. Tabun-ak of the town.

Alfredo, who was reportedly under the influence of liquor, as claimed by his wife, Aurelia, was arrested by policemen, who responded the stabbing incident, Sayap said.

Aurelia told DYEZ Aksyon Radyo that her husband may have been possessed by a “devil”, as he stabbed his own son for no reason at all.

Sayap said they are now readying charges against Alfredo for the death of his son, who was declared dead on arrival at the Alfredo Maranon Sr. Memorial District Hospital in Brgy. Bato, Sagay City.

Laborer Patricio Rebucca,42, was also arrested Sunday by a combined team of Army soldiers and policemen in Brgy. Inolingan, Moises Padilla, after he allegedy stabbed Emolaga.

Senior Inspector Robert Mansueto, Moises Padilla police chief, said Emolaga was declared dead on arrival at the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital in Bacolod City, with stab wound at the right upper portion of his waist.

An 8-inch jungle knife and a brown baseball cap were recovered at the crime scene by Moises Padilla policemen, who responded to the stabbing incident.

Mansueto said the stabbing incident was caused by a misunderstanding between the victim and suspect, who were on a drinking spree.

Rebucca is now detained at the Moises Padilla Police Station Jail.

On other hand, Perdon,38, is now being treated in a hospital in Bacolod City, after she was allegedly shot Sunday by her elder brother, Jeffrey, 40,in Brgy. Cabcab, Isabela.

Perdon sustained gunshot wounds in the stomach and right thigh, while her brother immediately fled after the shooting incident.

Meanwhile, Julito Treinta,50, who is suffering from a nervous breakdown , was shot in the palm of his left hand by Mansueto, to prevent him from commiting suicide, at their residence in Hacienda Lonoy, Brgy. Magallon Cadre, Moises Padilla on March 29.

Trienta had threatened to kill himself, using a spear gun, investigations of the Moises Padilla police also showed. *GPB
