Cops nab sec-gen
of Bayan Negros

BY ADRIAN NEMES III

A militant group leader, linked to the raid of a fish farm owned by the nephew of Negros Occidental Governor Alfredo Marañon Jr. in Sagay City last year, was apprehended by the police at the Bacolod City downtown area at about 3 p.m. yesterday.

Senior Supt. Ricardo de la Paz identified the suspect as Christian Tuayon, secretary general of the Bagong Alyansang Makabayan-Negros.

De la Paz said Tuayon was arrested by joint operatives of the Philippine National Police Intelligence Group, Bacolod City Police and the Army’s Intelligence group by virtue of an arrest warrant for robbery in band issued by Regional Trial Court Judge Renato Muñez, who set his bail at P40,000.moremoremore

Arrest, charge illegal
occupants at Murcia farm
BY CARLA GOMEZ

Gov. Alfredo Marañon yesterday said those who forcibly entered the Negros First Farm in Murcia owned by the Negros Occidental provincial government, and took over a portion of the area will be apprehended and charged in court.

Senior Supt. Allan Guisihan, Negros Occidental police provincial director, said the police have been sent to the area to apprehend the illegal occupants who have started to plow the area.

On Monday the illegal occupants took over more than one hectare of the 159-hectare Negros First Ranch that houses the provincial government's cattle and sheep from Australia, Dr. Renante Decena, Negros Occidental provincial veterinarian, said.moremoremore

City collects
P247M in taxes

BY CHRYSEE SAMILLANO

The Permits and Licensing Division of Bacolod City collected P247 million in business taxes from January 1 to March 31, 2012, which is more than double their collection last year, its head Vicente Petierre III said yesterday.

He said they have collected only P116 million in the same period in 2011.

Petierre said collection this year is expected to increase on a monthly basis since most of the payments they have received were only for the first quarter. “So, when payments for the second, third and fourth quarters come in, for sure, our tax collection will increase some more,” he said.moremoremore
