Red Cross on Holy Week alert,
offers summer safety training

The Negros Occidental-Bacolod City Red Cross Chapter will put up first aid and ambulance stations in the Bacolod City north and south terminals, from April 3 to 5, to assist motorists and passengers during the Holy Week, a press release from the group said.

Its ambulance service will also be on call from April 3 to 8. The public may call the Red Cross hotline, 709-1700, in case of emergency, the press release added.

The Red Cross, meanwhile, will conduct its 11th summer safety institute from April 10 to May 31, that aims to create public awareness and be involved in promoting safety practices at home and in vacation places, acquire skills in first aid, basic life support, swimming courses, and on disaster management.

Those interested may join safety and disaster management courses like the standard first aid training and BLS–CPR for healthcare providers on April 10-15; basic swimming course, April 16-18; first aid regional instructors course, April 23-28; IHL safer access training, April 30; ambulance operations course; standard disaster management, May 8-12; Kabankalan City Red Cross Branch safety institute, May 14-19; and the Red Cross 143 training, also in Kabankalan, on May 7-31, the press release said.

Silay parish bares
Lenten activities

“Resurrect with Christ” is the emphasis of the Lenten observance at the San Diego de Alcala Parish in Silay City, facilitated by the Parish Liturgy Committee, in cooperation with the Silay City Tourism Office, a press release from the city said.

Parish priest Abenir Pineda, who is inviting the faithful to join the activities of the church, said Holy Thursday will be highlighted by the Chrism Mass and an evening mass of the Lord’s Supper that will feature the washing of feet of the 12 apostles, and Adoracion Nocturna.

“The Lord’s Passion” on Good Friday will start with the Station of the Cross with the 12 apostles at 4:30 a.m., and the celebration of the Lord’s Passion at 8:30 p.m., the press release added.

Procession will start at 5:30 p.m. and will include the images of the ‘Pagbunal kay Jesus’, ‘Pagpurong-purong’, ‘San Pedro’, ‘Pagsugat-anay’, ‘Veronica’, ‘Black Nazarene’, ‘Crucifixion’, ‘San Juan Evangelista’, ‘Pagtaltal’, ‘Salome’, ‘Cleofas’, ‘Magdalena’, ‘Martha’, ‘Santo Entierro’, and ‘Dolorosa’.

The “Veneration of the Sto. Entierro” will start at 6 p.m. and ends 10 a.m. the following day, while the Black Saturday activities will begin with ‘Soledad’ at 8 p.m. and the Easter vigil mass at 9 p.m., the press release said.

Easter Sunday or the Lord’s Resurrection will be staged at the Cinco de Noviembre marker. The priests will also facilitate the renewal of baptismal promises, Ver Pacete, tourism officer of Silay, said.

The meeting of Christ and Mary will be at 4:30 a.m. and the Eucharistic celebration will be held at the San Diego Pro-Cathedral, at about 5 a.m., the press release added.*
