Capitol to give out agri,
service awards

The Province of Negros Occidental is giving out 30 major awards and special citations for the Pasidungog sa Panguma, Pangisda, kag Pagsagod Kasapatan and Pasidungog sa mga Manug-Sagud Sapat at the Panaad Festival that will open today at the Paanad Park and Stadium in Bacolod City.

The Office of the Provincial Agriculturist and the Provincial Veterinary Office will determine the winners from the agriculture and livestock and poultry offices.

OPA will give out 15 awards including Outstanding Young Farmer, Outstanding Agricultural Extension Worker, Outstanding Vegetable Farmer, Outstanding Rice Farmer, Outstanding Corn Farmer, Outstanding Home Maker, and Outstanding Organic Farmer Association.

Outstanding citations will also be given for fisherman like Outstanding Marine Fishery, Outstanding Tilapya Farmer, Outstanding Bantay Dagat Task Force, Outstanding Bangus Farmer, and Outstanding FARMC .

The local government units will also vie for the Outstanding LGU title while Gov. Alfredo Marañon, Jr. will also award 15 parents of Pagkaon Scholar Awardees called “Ginikanan” as tribute to them.

The PVO also has 15 outstanding awards for Artificial Insemination Technician in Swine, AI in Large Animals, Hog Raisers Association, Paravet Association, Dairy Cooperative, and Satellite Breeding Farm.

Other awards are for Outstanding Cattle Breeder, Outstanding Sheep and Goat Breeder, Outstanding Raiser on Free Range Chicken, Outstanding Swine Breeder, Outstanding Carabao Breeder,Outstanding Game Fowl Breeder, LGU Implementer on Veterinary Services, egg layer production, and broiler production.

Dina Genzola,senior agriculturist yesterday said the province is recognizing the efforts of LGUs, farmers, and agricultural organizations in their efforts of producing the food and staple demands of Negros.

Dr. Renante Decena, provincial veterinarian also said the province aims to make the livestock and poultry industry to be the second major industry of the province, after to sugarcane.

He said the awards will help growers, breeders, livestock and poultry associations to improve their resources, capability, and capacity to produce healthy and quality farm animals.*LTG
