Panaad expected to
draw thousands today

Thousands of Negrenses are expected at the 19th Panaad sa Negros Festival opening today to be highlighted by a festival dance competition this afternoon, fireworks, and the GMA “Kapuso” Night featuring Manila-based artists at the Panaad Park and Stadium in Brgy. Mansilingan, Bacolod City.

Gov. Alfredo Marañon Jr. yesterday said he is inviting the public to join is the festivities that will showcase the different festivals of Negros Occidental, products and delicious food that the province is famous for.

He said the modern day heroes of Negros, the farmers, will also be honored at the festival.

Negros Occidental’s rice production has increased by 15 percent this crop season, the governor also noted.

The theme of this year’s festival is “19 Years of Panaad sa Negros: More Food, Fun and Festival.”

The festival will start with a thanksgiving mass at 8 a.m. today, to be followed by ribbon-cutting ceremonies for the Panaad Tourism and Trade Fair showcasing the Negros’ Best Products Display at the LGU Pavilions, the Organic Na Negros Agri-fest, Livestock and Dairy Products Fair, Panaad Festivals Photo Exhibit, Eco-Garden and Wellness Show, Environmental Information Advocacy, and the SK Federation Solid Waste Management Campaign at the Panaad Stadium.

A motorcade and LGU Floats Competition will start at 2 p.m. from the Provincial Capitol grounds to Panaad Park.

The formal opening ceremony will be at 4 p.m. with Marañon as speaker, followed by the festival dance competition.

Tomorrow, the second day of the weeklong ‘Hataw sa Panaad’ with Ching’s Group starts at 6 a.m. followed by sports events such as athletics, chess and the Great Titan Lifesaving Sports Festival at 7:30 a.m. At 1 p.m. the Drum and Bugle Competition will be held, while Composo and Pop Song Writing Competitions will be at 6 p.m. at the Panaad Stadium.

The TESDA Livelihood Skills Olympics will be at 8 a.m. Wednesday at the 2nd Floor, Panaad Stadium; taekwondo and boxing sports events will be at 1 p.m. at the second level of the Panaad Stadium.

Also on Wednesday the Latin Dance Sport is at 3 p.m. at NOMPAC, RMN’s Panaad Hip Hop Challenge will be at 7 p.m. at the Panaad Park Stage and UNILEVER’s “Pop Fiesta” is set at 8 p.m. at the Panaad Stadium.

ABS-CBN’s Halad sa Kapamilya is set 9 a.m. Thursday at the 2nd Floor of the Panaad Stadium. Also on Thursday an environment activity will be help 3 p.m. at the Panaad Park Stage and 5 p.m. the Visayan Folk Dances Competition takes place at the Panaad Stadium and will be followed by the M.O.R. Local Stock-Ilonggo Music Fest at 8 p.m.

The Lin-ay Sang Negros Grand Coronation Night takes centerstage at the Panaad Stadium 7 p.m. Friday.

On Saturday, outstanding Farmers, Fisherfolk and Livestock Raisers Awards jointly organized by Office of the Provincial Agriculturist, Provincial Veterinary Office and ABS-CBN will highlight the festivities at 6 p.m., while ABS-CBN’s Kapamilya Fiesta Caravan will be at 9 p.m. at the Panaad Stadium.

Awarding and presentation of winners will cap the weeklong celebration on Sunday during the closing ceremony which will be followed by the Panaad Drumbeating Showcase and Fireworks Display.*CPG
