Police nab 3 murder
suspects in Manapla

BY GILBERT BAYORAN

Policemen yesterday arrested three suspects linked to two incidents of murder, including the killing of a member of the Revolutionary Proletarian Army-Alex Boncayao Brigade, and robbery, that also yielded three firearms, during a raid conducted at Hacienda Ginolayan, Brgy. Tortosa in Manapla, Negros Occidental.

Senior Inspector Edencio Gregorio, Manapla police chief, yesterday said the arrest of Nilo Besonia, alias Odok, and his two companions, identified as Felix Santia, alias Tay-og, and his brother, Jobert, alias Dunot, also led to the recovery of a .45 caliber pistol with two magazines containing 14 live bullets, and two homemade shotguns with four ammunition.

Besana was tagged as the gunman in the killing of a certain Ka Ryan, a member of the RPA-AB, while Joebert Santia, is a suspect in the stabbing to death of Lorenzo Dapitan on March 16 in Manapla, police records show.

Felix, on the other hand, has a pending arrest warrant for the crime of robbery, issued by Silay Regional Trial Court Judge Felipe Banzon who recommended bail of P100,000 for him, police records show.

Gregorio said they are also investigating if the three arrested suspects were involved in the shooting of Roy Dalisay Jr.,23, and his sister Leah,22 , in Hacienda Bilbao, Brgy. Punta Mesa, Manapla, who were riding in tandem on a motorcycle, on April 5.

The victims whose father worked as the farm administrator of sugar farmer Luigi Benedicto in Hacienda Milagrosa, Manapla as reported by former Manapla Mayor Manuel Escalante III, sustained gunshot wounds in their legs. However, both survived the shooting incidents, police said.

Nine empty shells of .45 caliber pistol were recovered at the crime scene by policemen of Manapla, who responded to the incident.

Gregorio said the arrest of the Santia brothers and Besonia was an offshoot of their follow-up operations, following the arrest of Danny Villanueva, a suspected drug peddler, on April 6 in Manapla.

Villanueva figured in a motorcycle accident after he tried to avoid a patrol car of the Cadiz City Police Station, at Crossing Central, Brgy. Purisima, Manapla, investigations of the Manapla police showed.

Gregorio said Villanueva who was armed with a .357 magnum revolver, tried to flee despite his injuries in the knee, and traded shots with Manapla policemen, who arrived at the scene, after being informed by the Cadiz police.

Villanueva was later cornered while fleeing to a nearby sugarcane plantation, and arrested by the Manapla police.

Aside from the 357 magnum revolver with three live ammunition and three empty shells in its chamber, the Manapla police also recovered three sachets of suspected shabu and more than P8,000 in cash from Villanueva, investigations of the Manapla police also showed.

Escalante said Besonia, a former RPA-ABB member, and his group was reported to be planning to rob Villanueva in Sitio Busay, Manapla. Instead, they mistook the two victims of the shooting incident to be Villanueva, Escalante said.

Gregorio said they will subject the .45 caliber pistol taken from Besana, and the recovered empty shells as well slugs to ballistic examinations.

Escalante lauded the successful operations of the Manapla police against the lawless elements, that may lead to the solution of the killings and robbery in the town.* GPB
