Pielago, Cordero win
master bowler crown

Batch ’85 star player Iran Pielago and Ruby Cordero of Class ’84 won the master bowlers title of the 2012 Negros Occidental High School Inter-class General Alumni Homecoming Bowlfest For Unity at the Super Lanes of the Goldenfield Commercial Complex in Bacolod City.

Pielago won in the men’s division over twice-to-beat Jecky Sola of Batch ’97 in the deciding match, 116-103, while Barbosa bagged the title in the distaff side by defeating Batch ’89 Devonne Fernandez in the finals, 107-101.

Before earning the right to challenge the No.1 seed in the men’s category, Pielago subdued No.3 Hernand Garciniego of Class ’73 in the quarterfinals, 109-103, and also won over Jerry Rodrigo also of Class ’73 in the semi-final, 117-108.

In the women’s category, Cordero with Fernandez ripped Ronela Cordero of Batch ’89 in the semis, 106-100, while the latter downed Lolit Cula of Class ’66 in the quarterfinals.

The other members of the top 10 club who failed to make it to the up-the-ladder system were top qualifier Felipe Boy Romero Jr. (Class ’73), Joe De Leon (C’70), Bonnie Ta-ala (C’70), Ceasar Sumaylo (C’82), Karl Barbosa (C’97), and Rod Garcia (C’66) in the men’s bracket, while Leda Exito (C’65) in the women’s top five.

The tournament’s awardees were Hernand Garciniego (C’73) in the men’s highest pinning with 97 pinfalls, and his teammate Boy Romero in single and triple with 155 and 367, respectively.

Emily Fortaleza (C’65) topped women’s pinning with 91, as Ronela Cordero and Devonne Fernandez of Batch ’89 in single and triple with 126 and 343 each.

Meanwhile, the battle for the top four survivors in three divisions of the team competition is set on April 14 at the same venue and will start at 3 p.m.*
