RPA men, brgy officials
linked to Sagay strafing

BY GILBERT BAYORAN

Two Cadiz City barangay officials and 14 alleged members of the Revolutionary Proletarian Army-Alex Boncayao Brigade are now in hot water after being tagged as suspects in a strafing incident on Good Friday in Sitio Campo Santiago in Brgy. Sewahon, Sagay City, Negros Occidental.

Complainant Nazer Claro reported to the Sagay police that Maning Verbo, barangay captain of Celestino Villacin in Cadiz City, who was armed with an M16 rifle, accompanied by Kagawad Junjun Labolbora and 14 armed RPA-ABB members, fired his gun several times, while his companions encircled his residence.

Claro claimed that Verbo shouted for his brother, Jupit, to come out of their residence, and also quoted him as saying “ Ano gusto nyo patyanay? (What do you want – killing)?”

He added that Verbo kicked the door of his house for five times when Jupit did not come out. This prompted him and other members of his family to flee towards the Sewahon barangay poblacion.

Investigations of the Sagay police showed that a bullet hit the roof of the house of Verbo, but none of the house occupants was hurt.

Chief Inspector Gabriel Gutierrez, Sagay police chief, yesterday said Claro is determined to file charges against Verbo, Labolbora and the armed RPA-ABB members, some of whom he already identified.

Sagay policemen, who responded to the alleged strafing incident, recovered seven empty shells of an M16 assault rifle at the scene.

Before the incident, Gutierrez said a barangay tanod of Celestino Villacin, whose identity is not available, was allegedly mauled by Claro and his companions in Brgy. Siwahon, Sagay City.

Gutierrez said the case to be filed against the suspects, will depend on the the sworn affidavit of the victim, who is expected to return to the Sagay City Police Station today. * GPB
