After dominating the Mambukal Team Relay competition, Escalante City athletes went on to win gold medals in discus throw and Under 17 boys’ 800-meter run as the athletics competition in the 19th Panaad sa Negros Festival started yesterday at the Panaad Park and Stadium.

Cedie Cabungcag beat closest contender Carlo Riva of Bacolod City Team A in discus throw with his 25.65m distance to given Escalante its first gold in the competition.

Riva’s 25.59 was good for the silver medal, while Revy Lambaste of Bago hurled the iron disc to a distance of 23.13 meters to grab the bronze.

OFW to carry
2012 Olympic torch

Reymundo “Apol” Enteria from Peace Village, Antipolo City will be one of the selected individuals who will carry and pass on the official Olympic 2012 torch in London starting May 19.

Enteria, an overseas Filipino worker based in Kent, England will be joined by Filipino-British Steven Cheung, who will represent various countries and groups as Olympic torch bearers in the torch relay across the British Isles for the 2012 Olympics.

Enteria comes from an OFW family, with his mother having worked in a Hong Kong factory, while his brother and brother-in-law are both working in Saudi Arabia. His father is a jeepney driver.
