Tell Your Tita

Do I make my move?

Dear Tita,

When I was still a freshman in college, Roy, a senior student, tried to court me. I was very immature at that time and I didn’t take him seriously. I thwarted all his attempts and even laughed at him. My close friends thought I was crazy as all the girls had a crush on him - handsome, well-mannered, a good student and a popular athlete. I guess I was just too young to appreciate him then. They told me he was devastated as I was his true love. After he graduated, he married the daughter of a rich businessman.

The marriage was a disaster as she was a spoiled brat and treated him badly. After a few years, she left Roy, took their son and married a Canadian fellow she met abroad.

By this time, I was all grown up and busy with my own career.

Recently, I bumped into Roy at the supermarket. I was pleasantly surprised to see him again after all these years. He looked happy to see me again and we had a short chat about our college days. We exchanged celfone numbers and promised to keep in touch. I waited and waited but nothing happened. He didn’t contact me at all. I found this disconcerting as I was really hoping he would get in touch with me. Now, I realize what I had lost a long time ago. I keep thinking of Roy, wishing we could see each other again. I’m tempted to call him but he might laugh at me the way I laughed at him before. I remember how he smiled and talked – he’s so different from the guys around.

Tita, can you believe it? I have a crush on the guy I used to laugh at! What do I do now?

STILL HOPING

Dear Still Hoping,

Hey girl, there are many ways to skin a cat! If your college friends are still around, why don’t you organize an impromptu get-together and invite him. That way, you could talk and reminisce some more about the ‘good old days’. Don’t come on too strong or you might scare him away! Keep it light and airy. Share some corny jokes and be sure to laugh at his jokes, even if you’ve heard it before. Remember, you’re not a daughter of Eve for nothing. The ball’s in your court now. Don’t lose it! Good luck.

TITA
