Golez seeking
conversion of hospitals

Bacolod Rep. Anthony Golez Jr. has filed House Bill 6069, entitled “an act converting government hospitals into national government hospital corporations providing funds for them and for “other purposes”, a press release from his office said yesterday.

The bill seeks to give 26 national government hospitals the status of a corporation, giving them fiscal autonomy.

The bill will enable these hospitals to have more money in providing health services to the poor, he said.

“The bill aims to create and nurture national government hospitals that will be responsive to needs to the citizenry,” he added in the press release.

House Bill No. 6069 will allow medical institutions to engage in income-generating activities and the revenue earned is envisioned to spur a mechanism where medical care for indigent patients will be subsidized, the press release also said.

The corporatization of the current government hospitals will also fiscal autonomy, which is expected to create a more efficient and effective delivery of health care. A similar bill was filed in the senate by senator Franklin Drilon, the press release said.

Golez also filed House Resolution No. 2311, entitled “a resolution congratulating and commending filipino journalist Benjamin Lim for winning the reporter of the year award for 2011”.*

Lim is a Filipino journalist based in China who was chosen by the Reuters wire agency as its reporter of the year for 2011, the press release added.*
