Ayala diverts focus
with COA delay: guv
BY GILBERT BAYORAN

Ayala Land Inc. has informed Gov. Alfredo Marañon of its decision to focus its development plans and resources on other projects in Negros Occidental, following the delay of the Commission on Audit in reviewing the deed of sale and contractof lease to them of the 7.7-hectare prime property of the provincial government in Bacolod City, he said yesterday.

Jose Emmanuel Jalandoni, ALI senior vice-president, in a letter dated April 4 released by the governor to the media yesterday, said they will focus their plans and resources on their Northpoint project in Talisay City, as well as other potential opportunities in the province.

He assured Marañon of the company’s commitment to Negros as a “growth center” for its development, and said they will continue to look forward to bringing more quality products and lifestyle developments to the Negrenses.moremoremore

‘Negros to be lamb
capital in 2 years’

BY GILBERT BAYORAN

Governor Alfredo Marañon Jr. yesterday said that he is optimistic that Negros Occidental will be the “lamb capital” of the Philippines within the next two years, as he described the breeding of sheep in the province as “promising”.

The provincial government bought 6,000 sheep from Australia for breeding purposes in Negros Occidental, and these are now housed at the Negros First Ranch in Brgy. Santa Rosa, Murcia.

Marañon said he expects the 6,000 sheep to double their number in 14 months. A kilo of lamb meat is being sold at P500 to P700.moremoremore

STAR trek hits
30th year today
BY CARLA GOMEZ

Today the Visayan DAILY STAR trek marks its pearl anniversary with a celebration of 30 years of journalism with a passion.

The STAR anniversary rites will be held at Planta Centro Hotel in Bacolod City at noon today.

Thirty years ago disgust at the way big interests were trying to influence the way the previous newspaper they were connected with was covering the Central Azucarera de La Carlota strike at the start of the 80's, drove a group of journalists to band together and start the Visayan DAILY STAR.moremoremore
