BCPO, NOPPO lauded for
efficient operations

The National Police Commission in Region 6 recently lauded the Bacolod City Police Office for efficiency in its operations, but recommended measures so it can serve the populace better.

Napolcom-6 director Marte Palomar said in a television interview, yesterday that the BCPO and the Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office are better off, compared to other police offices, in Western Visayas.

Palomar, however, said the BCPO lacks vehicles, while several police stations need repairs.

Senior Supt. Ricardo de la Paz, city police director, admitted that four of their 10 police stations have no patrol cars to use in responding to crime incidents.

De la Paz said the city government has already purchased vehicles for stations 2, 4, 5 and 6, and five more vehicles will be bought before the year ends, to boost police visibility operations in Bacolod.

He also acknowledged the dilapidated state of some police stations, but emphasized that these shortcomings will not hinder them in the performance of their duties and responsibilities.*APN

Cops seize
160 motorcycles

The Bacolod City Police Office has seized 160 motorcycles since the start of the “Katawhayan sa Dalan” campaign last week, Senior Supt. Ricardo de la Paz, BCPO director, said.

The motorcycles were confiscated after the drivers failed to present documents to prove their ownership. Twenty drivers, meanwhile, were stopped by the police, because they had passengers below 7-years-old, which is prohibited under the law.

De la Paz said 329 ‘clear motorbike’ stickers, on the other hand, were given to drivers, who presented the required documents at checkpoints, while 157 were issued violation tickets for not wearing helmets.

He emphasized that the campaign is not “ningas cogon”, but will be sustained, to curb lawlessness in Bacolod City.

Personnel of the Land Transportation Office, the Highway Patrol Group, the Bacolod Traffic Authority Office, and the BCPO Traffic Management Unit will conduct sustained checkpoint operations at the main thoroughfares of the city 24 hours a day, De la Paz said.*APN

‘Drug peddler’ arrested

A suspected drug peddler was apprehended by the police in an anti-illegal drugs operation in Brgy. 8, Bacolod City, at about 4:30 p.m. yesterday.

Supt. Santiago Rapiz, City Anti-Illegal Drugs Special Operations Task Group head, identified the suspect as Goldina Aguilar, 34, of Purok Punta Kapre in Brgy. 8.

Aguilar, who had been arrested before for a similar offense, was nabbed after she handed an elongated sachet of suspected shabu, in exchange for P200. Two additional small plastic sachets of the banned substance, and illegal drug paraphernalia were seized from Aguilar during her arrest, Rapiz said.

Rapiz added that Aguilar’s husband is detained, also for illegal drugs.*APN
