Council vows
‘industrial peace'

The Tripartite Industrial Peace Council of Negros Occidental is geared towards having industrial peace, human resource and employment facilitation, and workers protection and welfare in all labor groups and establishments in the province, Labor and Employment Director Ponciano Ligutom said Thursday in Bacolod City.

Ligutom said the promotion and maintenance of industrial peace is the priority of the council to give workers and employers the equal rights. He said he has not heard of any workers strike or locked down establishments due to labor and management disputes but he knows that labor unions in the province are active.

Trade and Industry provincial director Rebecca Rascon said the council also aims to reduce, if not eliminate, child labor and establish a drug free work place.

Rascon, a facilitator at the activity, said TICP can also enable the group to create a committee to settle and handle mediation and conciliation before parties decide to file cases.

TICP members also asked for their own office and Ligutom agreed to at once, saying, “By all means let us make use of the office of TICP at the DOLE-Negros Occidental field office.”

Meanwhile, the Democratic Association of Labor Organization appealed to DOLE to act on the labor complaints filed by the workers that have been pending for five to 10 years now.

The group filed complaints against employers for violation of provisions of the law on the minimum wage and non-implementation of mandated benefits.

Ligutom assured that a new system will be implemented under his administration.*LTG
