NPA assassination victim
linked to murder in NegOr
BY GILBERT BAYORAN

A victim of the recent assassination activity of the New People's Army in Moises Padilla, Negros Occidental, was also linked to the murder of a member of Karapatan in 2009.

Capt. Anacito Naz, of the 302 nd Infantry Brigade, however, said that the victim, CAFGU member Dandy Quilanan was falsely accused by Dodong Quirante, a member of Karapatan-Negros and leader of a farmer's group in Brgy. Trinidad, Guihulngan, Negros Oriental, in May 2009.

Quilanan, who also works as a part-time “habal-habal” driver, aside from rendering duties as a CAFGU member assigned at the Montilla detachment, was gunned down by about five suspected rebel assassins on April 10 in Sitio Tubod, Brgy. Montilla, Moises Padilla.

On Thursday, 12 rebel returnees also received P50,000 each as economic assistance, and as part of the peace initiatives of the government.

Uytico named NegOr
schools division head
BY JUANCHO GALLARDE

Secretary Armin Luistro of the Department of Education has appointed Ramir Uytico as the Negros Oriental Schools Division superintendent, effective immediately.

Before his appointment, Uytico was the officer in charge of the Office of the Schools Division Superintendent of Dumaguete City.

Uytico said his first concern is to take care of the welfare of teachers as frontliners, adding that no matter what preparations have been introduced to them academically, they will not be affective in teaching if the division does not take care of their needs, too.
