Bacolod Police Station 5 tops
performance evaluation rating

The Bacolod City Police Station 5 topped the administrative performance evaluation rating conducted by the National Police Commission in Region 6, records obtained by the DAILY STAR yesterday showed.

The station, headed by Senior Insp. Neil Exaltado, garnered 90.88 points out of 92, the perfect score, while Police Station 2, headed by Senior Insp. Robert Dejucos, placed last with 88.74.

Police Station 8, headed by Senior Insp. Jerick Filosopo, and Station 4, led by Chief Insp. Leonardo Borromeo, ranked second and third with scores of 90.10 and 90.06, respectively.

Exaltado attributed this achievement to the cooperation of his personnel and the awards they received in the past. He said one of his men, Police Officer 2 Joanne Ofalia, was adjudged the junior police non-commissioned officer of the year.

Station 5 is one of the four police stations with no patrol vehicles but Exaltado said this did not hamper their operations.

He added that the Bacolod government, through the General Services Office, gave them the vehicle that they are using now.

Napolcom-6 director Marte Palomar has said that the police stations under the BCPO and the Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office, are better off compared to other police stations in Western Visayas.

He, however, noted that the BCPO lacks vehicles, and several police buildings need repairs.*APN

Court convicts
solon of parricide

A Regional Trial Court in Cebu City yesterday found Dinagat island Rep. Ruben Ecleo Jr. guilty of parricide, for the death of his wife, Alona Bacolod-Ecleo.

Judge Soliver Peras of RTC Branch 10 meted on Ecleo the penalty of reclusion perpetua or imprisonment of from 20 years and one day to 40 years. He also awarded more than P25 million in damages to the victim's family.

After four postponements since December last year, Peras handed down the guilty verdict at past 5 p.m. yesterday.

Ecleo, the supreme master of the Philippine Benevolent Missionaries Association, was indicted for the death of his wife in 2002.

Ecleo did not attend the promulgation of the judgment in his case. A team from the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group, meanwhile, was deployed to the Marcelo Fernan Palace for the promulgation.

CIDG 7 chief Jose Pante said that if Ecleo was present, they would have arrested him since a warrant has been issued for his apprehension. Ecleo has eluded authorities trying to enforce the warrants for his arrest, issued by the Sandiganbayan, following his conviction on two graft cases.

Ecleo was elected congressman of Dinagat Island in the May 2010 elections.*PNA
