Dengue cases decrease
in Bacolod: CHO
BY CHRYSEE SAMILLANO

Dengue cases in Bacolod City decreased by 61 percent from January to February this year compared to the same period last year, Teresita Gonzales, Bacolod City Health Office dengue coordinator, yesterday said.

Gonzales said the total cases of dengue from January to February this year was 22, compared to 82 cases covering the same period last year.

Total cases of dengue last 2011 was 388 compared to 4,274 in 2010, or a decrease of 91 percent, she said.

Warlito Valiente, CHO statistician, said there was only one death recorded this year compared to three last year.

Gonzales said big barangays like Brgy. Bata, Estefania and Villamonte recorded the highest in terms of dengue cases.

She attributed the decrease in the incidence of dengue cases in Bacolod City to the massive information campaign conducted by their office, massive anti-larvaecidal treatment in schools, and the strengthening of barangay dengue brigade.*CGS
