MPadilla  named
outstanding  LGU

BY LISA GAPAC

Negros Occidental Governor Alfredo Marañon Jr. and Vice Governor Genaroz Alvarez led the awarding of outstanding farmers, fishermen, and livestock raisers at the “Pasidungog sa Pangunguma, Pangingisda, Pangkasapatan” at the 19th Panaad Festival at Panaad Park and Stadium in Brgy. Mansilingan, Bacolod City, Saturday.

Marañon said the province is awarding farmers, fishermen, and livestock raisers to recognize their part in ensuring that food supply of the province is enough and sustainable for all Negrenses.

“We aim to not to be dependent only on our sugar industry since the province has a big potential. We hope that next year we will become self sufficient in rice and we believe we can achieve that because this cropping season, our rice production increased by 15 percent,” Marañon said.

He also said the province has started exporting the Japanese variety of rice and organic rice to other parts of the country.

The governor also reported that the province has distributed about 80,000 free range chickens, 5,000 piglets, and in two years, he hopes Negros Occidental will become the lamb capital of the Philippines.

He said the lunch buffet of different lamb dishes was successful and many were even asking for more. With this response from the public, Marañon said, the province will prepare another lamb buffet.

He also lauded all farmers, fishermen, and livestock raisers and called them the true heroes of the province.
