Signature drive vs.
helmet law held
BY JUDY F. PARTLOW

More than 1,000 residents of Dumaguete City have signed the petition for declaratory relief from the full implementation of Republic Act 10054, or the Mandatory Helmet Law in July.

Vice Mayor Alan Gel Cordova said he and Councilors Joe Kenneth Arbas, Manuel Arbon, Antonio Remollo and Albert Aquino, also signed the petition during a signature campaign at the Robinsons Place mall in Dumaguete, Saturday and Sunday.

The petition seeks to have the law nullified and called it unconstitutional, Cordova added. The signatories included motorcycle drivers and their families.

The move was due to the clamor of the city's riding public who claim that the mandatory helmet law is impractical and costly, since both the driver and rider will be required to wear helmets.*JFP
