Cop facing dismissal hearings
after testing positive for shabu

The retirement benefits of a police superintendent, who is set to retire November next year, is in jeopardy, after he tested positive for shabu in an unannounced drug testing, held at Camp Martin Delgado, in Iloilo City recently.

Supt. Venerando Gordon, deputy chief of the Regional Headquarters Support Group, who flunked the drug test conducted by the PNP Regional Crime Laboratory last January, is facing dismissal summary proceedings before the Regional Investigation and Detective Management Division, Senior Insp. Sally Manuel, said.

“We will not tolerate anybody, regardless of ranks, if found guilty of the offense,” Chief Supt. Cipriano Querol, regional police director, said. He labeled policemen using illegal drugs as misfits, dregs and scalawags, who are tainting the image of the police force.

Meanwhile, 50 more police officers in Region 6 were subjected to drug testing at Camp Martin Delgado Monday, as part of the “cleansing” program of the PNP.

“We will do the drug testing in times least expected by our personnel,” Querol said.

He, however, clarified that there are only a few “bad eggs”, and that majority of the PNP members are dedicated public servants.

“While they are only few, their negative impact on the image of the organization is fatal, so the campaign against them should be taken seriously,” Querol said.

The results of the latest drug tests are expected within the week.*GPB

2 ‘drug pushers'
apprehended

Two suspected drug pushers were arrested in separate buy-bust operations of the Anti-Illegal Drugs Special Operations Task Group in Bacolod City, yesterday, its head, Supt. Santiago Rapiz, said.

Rapiz identified the suspects as Joanne Dionson, 35, of Brgy. Taculing, and Jocelyn Gorriceta alias “Josephine,” 47, of Purok Cereza 1, Brgy. 27, both of Bacolod.

Dionson was arrested at about 12:30 p.m. at Bangga Ramos, in front of the barangay hall. Recovered from her were a small plastic sachet of suspected shabu, P300, and P500 in marked money. Rapiz estimated the shabu to cost about P500.

Gorriceta, on the other hand, was arrested near a restaurant at Libertad Market at about 3 p.m. Recovered from her were an elongated plastic wrapper of suspected shabu, P627, and P500 in marked money. Police estimated the illegal drugs seized at P3,000.

Rapiz said the suspects were not on their watch list, but so long as anyone is identified as a drug pusher, he or she will be subjected to a buy-bust operation, to gradually eliminate drug pushing activities in the city.

The suspects are now detained, and charges are being readied against them.*LTG
