Businessmen alarmed
over robbery gang
BY ADRIAN NEMES III

Businessmen in Bacolod City expressed alarm yesterday over a police intelligence report that the members of the Ozamis-Dipolog-Parohinog robbery group are in the city again, apparently to victimize business establishments.

Frank Carbon, president of the Metro Bacolod Chamber of Commerce and Industry, said businessmen are still worried about this, although the city police has declared that they are on top of the situation.

Carbon said MBCCI discussed the matter recently with Bacolod City Police Director Senior Supt. Ricardo de la Paz. The city police also provided them with pictures of the group members so they can identify and report them, and give them tips so they will not be victimized, he said.

Carbon also said they will meet again with the Bacolod police on the matter this week.

Ben Ortega, president of the Bacolod Filipino-Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry, said these robbers should be arrested right away as this creates animosity to businessmen.

He said they are alarmed, because these robbers could victimize anyone of them, and can strike anytime.

Ortega said they have not met with the city police about this matter but are taking precautionary measures so they will not be victimized.

Police intelligence reports show that three members of the Ozamis-Dipolog-Parohinog robbery group were sighted in Bacolod after the Holy week and that they allegedly plan to rob a mall but, because of the presence of policemen the plan was thwarted.

The reports added that the group planned to rob a bank but failed, because there were policemen near the area.

The same group is believed to be behind the broad-daylight hold-up at the Central Negros Electric Cooperative in March, where P3.6 million in cash was taken.*APN
