The 62nd Infantry Battalion in northern Negros will undergo a three-month retraining program on new combat operation strategies, values formation programs and orientation on human rights issues and related concerns.
Maj. General Jose Mabanta Jr., 3rd Infantry Division commander, however, said yesterday that the 62nd IB will not be pulled out from northern Negros, contrary to what the Philippine Army did with other infantry battalion units, that were retrained at Camp Macario Peralta in Jamindan, Capiz.
Mabanta said the Philippine Army headquarters will not relocate them during their retraining as some people will not like the unnecessary movement of troops.
The Army infantry battalions undergoing the retraining program will be re-equipped with additional weapons , and will be given a full complement of officers and men.
The retraining of 62IB is eyed to start in June.
Mabanta said Governor Alfredo Maranon Jr. has promised to provide some resources for the retraining of 62IB officers and personnel headed by Lt. Col. Efren Morados.
The retraining of Army infantry units is part of the capability upgrade program of the Armed Forces of the Philippines.* GPB
