The contractor of the sanitary landfill project in Brgy. Felisa, Bacolod City, yesterday said he wants to duplicate the project in Manila and make that of Bacolod an eco-tourist sanitary landfill.

Senando Santiago, president of A.L. Salazar Construction Inc., also told Felisa officials that they have a gold mine resting in their place.

The P32 million sanitary landfill was turned over yesterday by Santiago to the Bacolod City Government represented by Mayor Evelio Leonardia during the ceremony and blessing in Brgy. Felisa.

Guv hopes SC
election ruling swift

BY CARLA GOMEZ

Gov. Alfredo Marañon Jr. yesterday said he hopes the Supreme Court acts immediately on a petition questioning the holding of the special election for a congressman of the fifth district of Negros Occidental on June 2.

It must ask swiftly so government will not spend money if it decides to stop the election, the governor said.

Election lawyer Romulo Macalintal filed a petition to stop the June 2 special election in the fifth district before the SC Thursday, saying “it is illegal because it will be held beyond the period as provided by law.”

Bacolod cops told:
Shoot robbers if they fight back
BY ADRIAN NEMES III

“Shoot them if they fight back!”

City Police Director Senior Supt. Ricardo de la Paz gave this order to his policemen yesterday as the action to take in the event that they encounter any of the members of the Ozamis -Dipolog-Parohinog organized crime group.

Police intelligence reports show that the group is still in Bacolod and was planning to rob one of the big malls in the city and a bank after the Holy week, but failed because of police presence. They also planned to stage a heist at a pawnshop on Thursday, but for reasons that were not disclosed, were not able to do so. moremoremore
