IN SIBULAN:
604 typhoon victims get aid
BY MARICAR ARANAS

A total of 604 residents affected by tropical storm “Sendong” from Sibulan town received financial aid under the Emergency Shelter Assistance from the Quick Response Fund, at the Negros Oriental Sports and Cultural Complex Thursday.

Residents, whose houses were destroyed, received P5,000 in cash each, and those with damaged homes P2,500.

Governor Roel Degamo, who was present, with Sibulan Mayor Marcela Bartoces, and the barangay captains, said it took three months for the budget to be released because of the strict evaluation of the list of beneficiaries and the support documents required.

The provincial government has allocated P12.880 million for the 1,279 families whose houses were destroyed, and 2,594 others damaged by the strong floods brought by “Sendong” on December 17, 2011.

Aside from Sibulan, other local government units affected are Valencia, Amlan, Siaton, Mabinay, Dauin, Zamboanguita, Bacong, Pamplona, Dumaguete City, Tanjay and San Jose.*MA
