IN NEG. OR.
Solons seek to put up
local irrigation office
BY JUDY F. PARTLOW

The three congressmen of Negros Oriental are asking the National Irrigation Administration Board, through Secretary Proceso Alcala of the Department of Agriculture, to establish an Irrigation Management Office in the province to cater to the needs of farmers.

Rep. George Arnaiz (Neg. Or., 2nd District) said he, and Reps. Henry Pryde Teves (3rd District) and Jocelyn Limkaichong (1st District), believe that the putting up of an IMO in the province will cut down government red tape.

The present set up of the provincial NIA is to report directly to its regional office in Bohol, and this is not beneficial to Negros Oriental as the province may not get a fair share of the budget, Arnaiz added.

14 SU programs
granted Level IV status

Fourteen academic offerings of Silliman University have received the highest accreditation distinction from two independent private accrediting associations, a press release from the school said.

Level IV accredited status was granted to seven graduate degrees by the Association of Christian Schools, Colleges and Universities-Accrediting Agency Inc. for April 2012 to April 2016, while seven undergraduate programs got their equivalent Level IV accreditation status from the Philippine Accrediting Association of Schools, Colleges and Universities, it said.

The seven graduate programs are the Masters of Art in English, History, and Sociology; Master in Public Administration, Masters of Science in Nursing, and Psychology; and the Master of Science in Social Work. The undergraduate degrees include the Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Science, Bachelor of Science in Psychology, Bachelor of Mass Communication, Bachelor of Science in Nursing, and Secondary Education and Elementary Education, the press release added.
