A Negrense is one of this year's recipients of the Fr. Neri Satur Award for Earth-saving Heroism (2012) to be given at the NBN4, Studio 1, Visayas Avenue, Quezon City 3 p.m. today, Former Environment Secretary Heherson Alvarez, founding chairperson of the Earthsavers Climate Change Commissioners, said yesterday.
Bro. Jaazeal Jakosalem is being recognized for his earth-saving agenda in the field of Green Building and Energy Conservation exemplified by the Earth Chapel in the University of Negros Occidental – Recoletos constructed with indigenous materials and energy conservation features, he said.
“ The award is for all of us, wanting to share our communitarian witnessing for others. We share this award too, for the student-volunteers and collective members of Greenheart Hermitage. May we all continue to work for the protection and preservation of the environment,” Jakosalem told the DAILY STAR.
The awarding ceremony is one of the highlighted activities for Earth Day Week Celebration, Alvarez said, pointing out that “It is heroic to help Save Mother Earth”.
Earth Day has been observed annually with recognition of heroic acts in defense of the environment. It is in honor of Father NeriSatur, a martyr-priest killed protecting the forest, he added.
It is held in partnership with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources, United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization National Commission, the National Commission on Disaster Risk Reduction, the Climate Change Commission, the Philippine ITI Center and the Earthsavers Movement.*CPG
