BBC/Amazing '09 nails 9th win
in USLS Alumni/LNA7 cagefest

Staying undefeated in the tournament, Bacolod Basketball Club/Amazing '09 got away with a 63-60 victory against Batch 2003/2004/Martha to register its 9 th straight win in the 4th University of St. La Salle Alumni Association/LNA7 Sports Foundation Basketball Tournament at the West Negros University Gym.

BBC got a lift from Timonthy Dumancas' 13-point fourth quarter output to turn back the hardfighting Martha squad.

The two teams figured in a low starting first quarter with Martha taking the lead at 12-9. Getting their offense going in the second quarter, BBC grabbed the lead for the first time as Sammy Belanel scored a tear drop shot and a jumper for a 28-25 halftime lead.

With both sides tightening their defense in the third quarter, BBC's Dumancas and Philip Abong combined for eight points, while Michael Espolon and Nico Ganir responded for Martha's with seven points to end the quarter, 40-36.

Abong continued to sizzle for BBC in the fourth quarter as he opened fourth scoring with a layup for a 42-36 lead, but Francisco and Edward Castellano sparked a 6-0 run to tie the game at 42-all with still eight minutes left in the game.

BBC got some breathing space in the final seconds as Dumancas nailed a layup for a 60-55 lead but again, Martha came back as Gino Melocoton hit a trey to cut the deficit to two points with 18.1 seconds left.

Calling for a timeout, BBC assigned Belangel to take charge of the

inbound play with a three-pointer from Dumancas as an option.

Anticipating the play, Martha doubled team Dumancas but failed to stop Nico Lopingco, who played decoy on the last play, to score a layup and give BBC a four-point advantage.

With seven seconds remaining, Castellano quickly sprinted towards the basket and scored to cut the lead to two points. Martha had another chance to score as it stole the ball from BBC's possession but Dumancas managed to get hold of the leather and was fouled with a second left in the game. He split his charities but it was enough to give BBC the win.*NAB
