BBC/Amazing '09 nails 9th win
in USLS Alumni/LNA7 cagefest

Staying undefeated in the tournament, Bacolod Basketball Club/Amazing '09 got away with a 63-60 victory against Batch 2003/2004/Martha to register its 9 th straight win in the 4th University of St. La Salle Alumni Association/LNA7 Sports Foundation Basketball Tournament at the West Negros University Gym.

BBC got a lift from Timonthy Dumancas' 13-point fourth quarter output to turn back the hardfighting Martha squad.

The two teams figured in a low starting first quarter with Martha taking the lead at 12-9. Getting their offense going in the second quarter, BBC grabbed the lead for the first time as Sammy Belanel scored a tear drop shot and a jumper for a 28-25 halftime lead.

3 titles for ASSFBI team
in Suppliers Cup bowlfest

Active Solid Strikers Fellowship Bowlers Inc. beat twice in the finals tournament leader Sharp Team to capture the championship in the Suppliers Friendship Cup Open Trio Bowling Tournament at the New Top's Millenium Plaza Alley in Bacolod City .

With Norman Pineda, Ronald Fernandez and Nonoy Gatila joining Cecil Silverio in ASSFBI, the team won over Sharp, 348-311 in their first encounter, then sealed the victory with a 365-349 decision in the rubber match of the Class A division.

ASSFBI qualified to play for the championship against Sharp by beating ESD Electronz and Davies “A” in their first two games in the up-the-ladder system, then won against Kami Mga Hubin of Robbie Elegado in the semis, 375-346.

Nat'l badminton team
taps new foreign coach

The Philippine Badminton Association has tapped Indonesian Rexy Mainaky, a gold medalist in the 1996 Atlanta Olympics, as head coach.

Negros Occidental 3 rd District Rep. Albee Benitez, also the secretary general of PBA, said Mainaky is a veteran and tested player who can help the Philippine badminton.

Benitez, along with Vice President Jejomar Binay, and Mainaky gave their statements yesterday at the weekly forum of Manila-based sportswriters.
