Three cattle raisers in Negros Occidental signed a bull loan contract with Gov. Alfredo Marañon, Jr. and Provincial Veterinarian Dr. Renante Decena recently, in line with Provincial Animal Genetic Improvement Project of the PVO.
They are Louie Martin of Sibucao, San Enrique, Claude Schulze of Brgy. Calumangan, Bago City, and Gabriel Teodoro Yulo of Brgy. Gargato, Hinigaran.
Decena said the bull of Charolais and Simmental breeds are being loaned by the PVO to help local raisers produce and develop mixed breeds of cattle.
The raisers will return the animal upon the expiration of the contract and they will pay with one female calf so that the province will have other cattle with different breeds, Decena also said.
The PVO also required them to submit monthly report on the condition of the animal and its breeding services including the number of animal breeds and the number of offspring produced, he said.
Decena also said that if raisers fail to return the animal, if it dies or it gets contaminated with a serious disease, they have to pay the book value of the animal worth P100,000 per head.
He added that with this kind of program, the PVO will have different breeds of cattle, which can be reproduced in various breeding centers in the province.
PAGIP is one of the programs of the PVO that aims to improve the livestock production of Negros and producing quality meat by-products that are equally competitive to the commercial market, Decena also said. *LTG
