‘Review gun licenses'
BY ADRIAN NEMES III

The Bacolod City Police Firearms Explosives Security and Guards Section reminded once again gunholders with expired licenses in the city to renew them immediately.

Senior Insp. Lester Leada, FESAGS head, said they are now issuing summons to gunholders with expired licenses and urging them to renew their permits.

Leada said that, if the gunholders fail to renew their permits, they will apply for a search warrant and confiscate their guns. Region 6 FESAGS chief, Supt. Rendon Monte, has instructed all police offices in Western Visayas to indicate in the police clearances if a gunholder has an expired license.

Official records from FESAGS show that there were 5,393 gun owners in Bacolod City who failed to renew their licenses last year.

BCPO personnel confiscated 92 unlicensed guns from 98 persons they arrested in 79 operations last year, police records also show.

Bacolod City Police Director Senior Supt. Ricardo De la Paz had said that one of their thrusts for year 2012 is to stop the spread of unlicensed firearms in Bacolod. He added that they will intensify their campaign against illegal guns, especially those in the possession of criminal elements.*APN
