Undefeated in the elimination round, tournament leader Bacolod Basketball Club/Amazing ’09 easily advanced to the semifinals of the 4th USLS/LNA7 Basketball Tournament as it won by default its last game against Batch 1994/1995/2001/Strollers at the West Negros University Gym, Friday night.

Quarterfinals will start this Friday.

While BBC had an easy time booking a seat in the semifinals, Batch 2003/2004/Martha fell on the wayside and absorbed a stinging 89-100 loss at the hands of Batch 2007/2010, forcing a rubber match against Batch 2008/Shakey’s tonight.

Shakey’s, presently at No. 2 spot, is eyeing the second semifinals and a victory against Martha will spare the team from the quarterfinals battle.

In taming Martha last Friday, Batch 2007/2010 got a lift from Dominic Acosta’s six triples, three of them in the first quarter.

Martha tried to stay close in the first three quarters but lost steam in the endgame.

With Acosto and Locson delivering the points in the opening quarter, Batch 2007/2010 established a two-point lead, then stretched the gap to four points, 47-43, at halftime despite a combined 17-point output from Martha’s Luigi Herrera and Gino Melocoton.

Three hits from the three-point area from Oynon Mapa kept Batch 2007/2010 on top in the third period as Acosta remained hot with five points.

Batch 2007/2010 went for the win in the final quarter as Miguel Villanueva scored nine points to seal the victory for the team.*NAB
