‘Housing project to start soon'
BY JUDY F. PARTLOW & MARICAR ARANAS

The Dumaguete City government will start the construction of houses for victims of tropical storm “Sendong”, this month, Mayor Manuel Sagarbarria said.

He said the project had been delayed by paperwork and other requirements in the memorandum of agreement between the city, the National Housing Authority and the Department of Social Welfare and Development.

The deed of absolute sale of the property owned by the Tale family in Barangay Banilad, Dumaguete, has also been completed, Sagarbarria said.

The project site is around 7.7 hectares, with the city government paying P600 per square meter or P22 million. The DSWD has allocated P70 million while the NHA has pledged P40 million for the housing project.

Each unit that will be based on the design and suggestion of the NHA, will cost P110,000 the mayor said.

The project will prioritize “Sendong” victims in barangays Junob, Batinguel and Tabuc-tubig.*JFP/MA
