Police eyeing love triangle
in fatal stabbing of laborer

A love triangle is being eyed as motive for the fatal stabbing of a laborer, whose body was found at about 2 a.m. Tuesday near Port number 2 of the Bacolod Real Estate Development Corp., Station chief, Senior Insp. Robert Dejucos, said yesterday.

Dejucos said that based on their investigation, the girlfriend of victim Harry Demetillo Dumago, 47, of Purok Magtiayon, Brgy. 10, Bacolod, whose name the police withheld, allegedly has another suitor.

He said they already talked to the girlfriend of Dumago for her to shed light on the killing.

Medical reports indicated that Dumago sustained stab wounds on his abdomen, his back and his temple. Dejucos said the killing was obviously planned.

He added that the four persons last seen having drinks with Dumago in his house Sunday night are also tagged as possible suspects.

The four could not be found after Dumagos' body was discovered by a barangay tanod, the police added.*APN

Couple facing drug charges

Illegal drug charges are being readied against a couple arrested by the Bacolod City Police Anti-Illegal Drugs Special Operations Task Group in Brgy. 2 in the city Tuesday.

Bacolod City Police Director Senior Supt. Ricardo de la Paz said violations of Republic Act 9165 or the sale and possession of illegal drugs will be filed against Lido Sombilla, 52, of Purok Cagaycay, Brgy. 2, before the City Prosecutor's Office.

His wife, Beverly, 48, who has been apprehended by the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency before, will be charged for illegal drug possession, de la Paz said.

The couple, whose names are in the watchlist of CAIDSTOG, was arrested in a buy-bust operation, after Lido handed a small sachet of suspected shabu to a police poseur buyer in exchange for P300.

The items seized from the couple, that included 17 elongated sachets and two big plastic sachets of suspected shabu, will be sent to the crime laboratory of the Negros Occidental Provincial Police Office for examination, de la Paz said.

Policemen also recovered from the couple a cellular phone, and P1,596 in cash believed to be proceeds from the illegal drugs sale, police records show.

De la Paz said that, barely two months after Senior Insp. Niel Exaltado was installed as CAIDSTOG head, there has been no let-up in the operations of the campaign against illegal drugs.*APN

20 of 5,000 gunholders
renewed permits: PNP

Only 20 of 5,000 gunholders in Bacolod City renewed their permits last month, Senior Insp. Lester Leada, head of the Firearms Explosives Security and Guards Section, said yesterday.

FESAGS had sent 2,325 notices to the gunholders as of July, but Leada said owners replied that their firearms were either gone or had been sold. There were also gunholders who cannot be located in the address given in the permit applications.

Police records show that security agencies in Bacolod have renewed only 500 gun licenses. It did not give the total number of expired permits.

Leada reiterated his warning to erring gun owners to renew their licenses, or else the police will confiscate their firearms and they will be charged for illegal possession.*APN
