The Employees' Compensation Commission, the attached agency of the Department of Labor and Employment will conduct a seminar on Employees' Compensation Program to increase awareness and remind employers on their responsibilities to their workers on Aug. 23 at O'Hotel in Bacolod City, Ma. Victoria Mondragon, DOLE provincial director, said yesterday.

The speakers will be Stella Banawis, executive director of ECC, Ma. Cecilia Maulion, chief of Information and Publication Assistance Division, Dr. Ma. Sarah Antonia Concepcion, and Alicia Borres, Mondragon said.

DOLE invited 195 employers from different sectors like the business process outsourcing companies, manufacturing, big sugar plantations, and contractors' group to keep them updated and aware on their liabilities to their workers and to strengthen the implementation of the program, she said.

A representative from DOLE-Negros will also discuss its livelihood programs and services that will help beneficiaries improve their status of living though grants, she also said.

The ECP provides various packages of benefits for employees and dependents of private and public sector in the event of work-related contingencies like injuries, disability, sickness, or death, Mondragon said.

The ECC, meanwhile, formulates guidelines and policies for the improvement of the ECP, review and decide on appeal all EC claims disapproved by the systems, and to initial policies and programs towards adequate occupational, safety, health, and accident prevention at the workplace.

ECC was created on Nov. 1, 1974 through a Presidential Decree 442 or the Labor Code of the Philippines but becomes fully operational upon the issuance of PD 626 that took effect January 1, 1975. *LTG
